The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a Fire Weather Watch for gusty winds and low relative humidity, which is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening.
* AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 220, 221, 222, 223, 224, 225, 228, 229 and 230.
* WINDS...Northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...5 to 10 percent.
* IMPACTS...Elevated fire danger is expected. Fires will catch and spread rapidly and erratically.
At 124 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Chipita Park, or 11 miles northwest of Colorado Springs, moving southeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph, periods of intense rainfall, and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Western Colorado Springs, Woodland Park, Manitou Springs, Green Mountain Falls, Crystola, Chipita Park, and Cascade.
